Horizontal Lifelines

Horizontal Lifelines for Rooftop Safety

A Horizontal Lifeline is one of the most versatile fall protection systems available. Designed for elevated work areas, it can function as both a fall restraint and a fall arrest system, ensuring rooftop workers stay safe while maintaining mobility. By connecting a cable between secure anchor points, workers can move freely across the roof or structure without compromising safety. Whether preventing workers from reaching a hazardous edge or safely arresting a fall, these systems are essential for modern rooftop protection.

How Horizontal Lifelines Work

Horizontal lifelines consist of a cable secured between two or more permanent anchors. These systems can be installed in various configurations depending on the jobsite:

  • Rooftop applications – protect workers near unprotected edges.
  • Overhead systems – such as gallows-style setups for railcar and truck loading/unloading.
  • Mid-level systems – like crane runway or bridge applications.

When used with personal protective equipment—such as a harness and lanyard—a horizontal lifeline minimizes fall forces on the worker and the structure, creating a reliable line of defense in hazardous environments.

Key Benefits

  • Provides both fall restraint (prevents access to hazards) and fall arrest (stops a fall in progress).

  • Allows workers safe mobility along the rooftop or structure.

  • Flexible installation options for rooftops, bridges, crane rails, and more.

  • Reduces risk while ensuring compliance with OSHA and safety standards.
